This is considered as the holiest among the four important shrines in Garhwal at an altitiude of 3,133m above sea level. This place is also known as Vishal Badri and is one of the Panch Badris. It is located exactly between two mountains Narayan and Nara. Here shrine is dedicated to Lord Vishnu.

This temple was built two centuries ago by the kings of Garhwal. The principal idol in the temple is of black stone and represents Lord Vishnu who is seated in a meditative pose, and flanked by Nara-Narayan.

Beside this religious claim, Badrinath has some scintillating scenic beauty and recreational spots in the vicinity.

Main Attractions of Badrinath

Badrinath Temple(Adi Shankaracharya Ji) : This Temple has been renovated several times due to damage by avalanches. The present structure has a gilded cupola and is 15 mtrs high. This temple is divided into three parts -sanctum sanctorum or the garbha griha and the darshan mandap where the rituals are conducted and the sabha mandap where devotees assemble.

Tapt Kund And Surya Kund : The famous hot springs just below the temple. The temperature of this water have a temperature of 550C. It is said that a dip, considered holy and it refreshing body as well as the soul and is a must before offering prayers to Shri Badrinath ji.

Neelkanth : This majestic peak of the Himalayas, towering to 6600 mtrs. It presents the most dramatic sight of Badrinath.
