Popularly known as the “Scotland of the East”. This hill station is the capital of Meghalaya situated in the north eastern part of India at an altitude of 1496 m above sea level. Earlier Shillong was the capital of Assam but later on in 1974 it become capital of Meghalaya. Shillong has waterfalls, beautiful lakes and green mountains. Apart from this you will find Victorian bungalows, churches, golf course and club houses.

Main Attractions of Shillong

Anglican Cemetery : This is in Rilbong. Here gravestones date back to the last century of those soldiers that killed in the Lushai campaign in Mizoram.

Botanical Gardens : This is popularly known as Virgin forests or "Sacred groves". Here the forest is so sacred that even a dead leaf cannot be removed from the area. This is certainly a brilliant way of preserving the ecological system.

Iewduh - Shopper's Stop : This is the main bazaar that is run by women under the administrative supervision of the Mylliem State. Here you will find local food items and unbelievable wood and cane products.

Kyllang Rock : On the way from Mairang to Nongkhlaw there lies a massive single granite stone known as Kyllang Rock. It presents an appearance of a circular dome with a diameter of about 1,000 ft.

Lady Hydari Park : This park is filled with flowers and roses of almost every variety . In the Park you will find a mini Zoo and butterfly museum where colourful species preserved for sale and posterity.

Rengthiam Falls : This is located in the mawlyngad village. This spectacular waterfall is untouched in its natural beauty and surroundings. Toursits come here to see the beauty of nature.

Sohpetbneng Peak : This peak is situated at a height of 1,343m set amidst a beautiful scenic view against the backdrop of sacred forest. According to Khasi mythology this is known as "Navel of Heaven" that fills the spiritual void sand emptiness who wants peace of mind and solace.

Spread Eagle Falls : This is located on the outskirts of the city and its appearance is like that of an eagle with its wings that is so it is named as spread eagle falls. This falls has cliffs on three sides with a pool. The fall is locally known as " Urkaliar" or the fall in which Ka Liar slipped.
