Sivananda Ashram, Uttarakhand, India

Sivananda Ashram Located at Sivanandanagar, in Tehri district of Garhwal, Sivananda Ashram is a well known ashram for yoga and meditation. This ashram was founded by Swami Sivananda, one of the famous Yoga-Gurus of the world in the year 1932.

This ashram is situated close to the Swarg Ashram that was originally an abandoned cowshed. Swami Sivanadaji called this place as Ananda Kutir( the Abode of Bliss). Later on this place turned into an ashram with the help of disciples.

This ashram works on six mottos of the society-'Serve, Give, Love, Purify, Realize and Meditate". It is believed that Swami Sivananda was one of the prominent and known yoga teachers of the world. In 1948, he founded the Yoga-Vedanta Forest Academy. In 1951 this academy set up its own press.

Swami Sivananda used to treat the patients that included pilgrims, poor localities, and passing monks regularly. Later on in 1945, the Sivananda Ayurvedic Pharmacy was established this pharmacy use rare Himalayan herbs in medicines. Vedanta, Yoga, philosophy, ethics and meditation are educated to disciples in ashrams.
