Athirapally - land of rivers and waterfalls

Athirapally is the green comfort zone of Kerala with its rivers and forests and amazing waterfalls. If you are planning a green vacation, then Athirapally is the perfect destination to meet your dreams.

Athirapally is located in Mukundapuram Taluk, Thrissur district and is connected to many prominent cities and towns in Kerala with nearest being Thrissur city ( 60 kms), Kochi ( 70 kms), and Chalakudy town (30kms).

The Athirappally Waterfalls originates at Chalakudy River, 1000 ft above the sea level and is located at Sholayar ranges entrance. The Athirapally Falls creatively blends forests and small streams to offer a relaxed visual experience. And falling from a height of 80 feet becomes the largest waterfalls in the state.

This region in Western Ghats is popular for its vivid wildlife and is home to many endemic, regular and endangered species of flora and fauna such as Hornbill. Owing to its diversified flora and fauna, it is likely to be declared as a National Park by National Asian Nature Conservation. The International Bird Association has already affirmed it as a "Important Bird Area". Monsoon and winters are best time to visit this place.

Around Athirapilly, you can visit :

1. Dream World Water Park - An ideal destination for visitors to fully enjoy their vacations with more water actions.

2. Thumboormuzhy Dam and Butterfly Garden - Perfect place to enjoy picturesque view with classical waterfall scenic charm.

3. Silver Strom Water Park - A colorful amusement park with exotic flora and fauna.

4. Vazhachall falls - Garlanded with cultivated herbal plantation by forest department; it also provides you great experience with its water action. These falls are not so voluminous as Athirapally.

5. The Peringalkuthu and Sholayar Dams - Both the dams generate hydroelectric power for the state and situated at the deep forest on the way to Valpara.

6. Anakkayam - Meaning "Elephant pit", this place is untouched by human encroachments and known for its cool and placid water lake.

The other best attractions of Anthirapally are Charpa falls, Malakapara tea gardens and Vachumaram Lake.

You can reach here through Nedumbassery or Cochin airport ( 55 kms) or you can alight at Thrissur and Chalakudy railway stations. Frequent bus and cab services are available in all cities and towns around Kerala.
