
This is the only hill station in Rajasthan, It is at the height of 1,220 m of the Aravalli hills. It is surrounded by forested hills. According to a legend , this place derives its name from Arbuda , a serpent who descended to the spot to Shiva bull Nandi.
Mount Abu is also well known for the famous Dilwara temples and many other archaeological remains. Here you will find many interesting treks, romantic royal retreats of the various erstwhile families of Rajputana period.
Main Attractions of Mount Abu
Dilwara Temples : This is one of the finest Jain temple in Rajasthan beautifully carved temples built 11th and 13th century AD dedicated to Jain Tirthankaras. This is a superb example of temple architecture.
Gaumukh Temple : This is a small temple dedicated to Rama, centered on a spring garrulous from the mouth of a marble cow according to the Hindu creation myth. It is believed that world is formed by a cow, licking salt. It is said that the site of temple was ancient "Agnikund" fire rituals.
Govt. Museum : This museum was set up in 1962 within the premises of Raj Bhawan to preserve the archaeological wealth of the region.
Mandakini Kund : This Kund gives water supply to Achalgarh fort and sculpture of Parmar Daravarsh situated close to the Achaleswar Mahadev Temple.
Nakki Talav : This holiday centre is located in the heart of the town. According to the myth this sparkling blue artificial lake gauged from the earth by the gods, using their fingernails (Nakh).
