Mussoorie, Uttrakhand
Mussoorie A visit is all it takes to understand the beauty and charm of this Queen of the Hills in the Garhwal Himalayas. It is difficult to fathom the scenic vistas and the Raj era feel without travelling to this popular hill station of the North India. It was in 1820 after getting bowled over by the sheer beauty of the place, Captain Young of the British Mussoorie his home. And since then, the destination became a popular retreat of the British.

Once British set base in Mussoorie, it became out of bound for the Indians. So much so, the signs like “Indians and Dogs Not Allowed” were placed on the Mall. Motilal Nehru, the father of India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, deliberately broke this rule every day whenever he was in Mussoorie, and would pay the fine. Mussoorie had been a favourite tourist destination of the Nehru family in the past, who frequently visited Mussoorie in the 1920s, 1930s and 1940.

Whether you are an armchair traveller or one who enjoys getting out and exploring the city on foot; Mussoorie appeals to both.  One can enjoy the enigmatic view of pine layered hill tops and snow capped mountains that make a lasting impression on the minds of the tourists, who visit this place.

It is during summers, when northern plains scorch under the May-June heat, Mussoorie keeps its cool.  It is at this time you’ll find Mussoorie packed to brim with tourists, who come here to relax and escape the heat and dust of the plains.

There are various places of tourist interest in Mussoorie. Nature lovers can take a walk to the Camel's Back Road. This road takes its name from a rocky outcrop in the shape of a camel's hump. One can also visit the Gun Hill, where a cannon was fired to sound out midday for many years. Gun Hill can be reached by the cable car from the Mall road. St. Mary's is oldest church in Mussoorie, which is situated above Mall Road.

Kempty falls is the most popular tourist attraction in Mussoorie. And no tour to Mussoorie is complete without visiting Kempty Falls especially if you are visiting Mussoorie during rainy season or just after that. Company Garden is another popular tourist attraction in Mussoorie. You can find a beautiful collection of flowers and plants in the Company Garden during the season.
