The state has been in the forefront of the Indian freedom movement and produced some of the biggest freedom fighters, besides several renowned personalities from practically all walks of life such as sports, politics, entertainment, science and economy. Most of the prime ministers of the country have been from the UP and so is the biggest actor of all time of Bollywood – the one and only Amitabh Bachchan.

As far as tourist attractions goes, Uttar Pradesh has much to offer to all. The holy River Ganges passes through the state enriching the entire area and making it a religious destination par excellence. Varanasi, the holiest place in India and an abode of the Lord Shiva is in the UP, and so is Sarnath – where Lord Buddha first preached his message.

The most beautiful monument in the world is located in the UP, in Agra. This Monument of Love which is also one of the Seven Wonders of the World draws the tourists from all over the world, round the year. Taj Mahal is just magical at dawn. Its lovely gateway, beautiful & long watercourse, and superb minarets make it an object of timeless beauty.

Fatehpur Sikri which was built by the Akbar the Great also is located in the UP. It was the capital of the Mughal Empire for about 10 years. The majestic Agra Fort -- a mammoth red sandstone structure and a UNESCO site built by the same ruler – is also located in the UP.

The City of Nawabs and once the cultural capital of India which even today gives an amazing glimpse of the rich cultural heritage and the royal history of the place, Lucknow is yet another attraction of the UP.
