Jim Corbett Park
Flora in Corbett National Park
The dense moist deciduous forest mainly has trees like sal, pipal, haldu, rohini and mango trees covering about 73 per cent of the entire forest region. Beside this, around 10 per cent of the area is made up of grasslands.
Corbett houses 110 different varieties of trees including bamboos, grasses, shrubs, herbs, climbers and ferns. Tree density inside the forest is high in the Sal area whereas low in the Anogeissus-Acacia catechu area. Similarly the total basal tree cover is higher in Sal dominated areas of woody vegetation.
Flowering trees like Kachnaar (pink to white), Semal (red), Dhak (bright orange), Madaar (scarlet red) and Amaltas (bright yellow chandelier shaped) lend a mix of colors to the Corbett national park. In addition to this, other species of trees which do not grow naturally in the region, have been artificially grown in and around the habitat. Examples of such trees are Eucalyptus, Teak, Jacaranda, Bottlebrush and Silver Oak.
