Jhargram – Aranya Sundari OR paradise of nature lovers

Prettily located in the lap of the scenic forest areas of the West Midnapur, Jhargram is both a sub divisional municipality and a town. Situated ahead of the Gangetic plains of the West Bengal, this comparatively lesser known tourist place offers, perhaps, the most exotic beauties of the rolling topography that seem to culminate in the hill ranges of Belpahari and Kankrajhor in the North to the tranquil beauties of the Subarnarekha River picturesquely meandering in the South.

Located near the state of Jharkhand, Jhargram shares its unique culture with both West Bengal and Jharkhand states. Jhargram is a perfect tourist destination for spending a few days of one’s holidays in unmatched natural and peaceful surroundings -- that too at an affordable budget.

A tour to Jhargram reveals huge, verdant and dense natural forests of the tropical hardwoods, giving the visitors an exotic feeling and being one with the nature. The forest of the Jhargram abounds with piyal, mahua, shaal and cashew trees. Adding to the natural charm of the verdant forests of the Jhargram are the many beautiful seasonal variations.

Winter in Jhargram is pretty pleasant. But so it the summer season, as during this time the mahua trees of the region get loaded with fragrant flowers. The monsoon season is equally lovely as during this time the shaal trees get coated with beautiful blooms. Further, moonlit nights seem to carry the aura of woody fragrances from shaals and piyals and red gravel pathways elegantly encircle the trees – all of which give the Jhargram Forests picture-perfect looks and make them excellent natural wonder and a tourist destination par excellence.

Jhargram also has a few religious shrines which much inspire the religiously and spiritually inclined visitors, in the process, significantly adding to the tourism appeal of the exotic place.

Jhargram boasts of several tourist attractions and these are the key ones:
  • Chilkigarh Kanak Durga Temple 15 km
  • Sabiti Mandir 3 km
  • Kendua 10km
  • Deer park 2 km
  • Dherua (bank of Kansal River )
  • Medical Plants Garden (Kalaboni )
  • Kakrajhor Forest
  • Ketki Falls
  • Tribal Museum

Where to Stay

The Jhargram Palace is a nice place to stay while on a visit to this wonderful tourist hotspot. Once owned by the Raja of Jhargram, this property is now run and managed jointly by the West Bengal Tourism Development Corporation (WBTDC) and the regal family.
