Patna - Pataliputra OR city of flowers OR capital city of Bihar

Strategically situated where the four rivers -- the Ganga, Sone, Gandak and Poonpun – meet, Patna, earlier called Pataliputra, is the capital of Bihar. This relatively lesser visited tourist destination of India may not find an important place in the list of famed tourist places of the country. But, things are likely to improve pretty soon in view of the many new initiatives and efforts being made currently by the government towards promoting tourism of the place in particular and the state in general.

The entry point to the famed Buddhist and Jain holy spots of Vaishali, Nalanda, Rajgir, Bodhgaya, Keshariya and Pawapuri; Patna is a very old city and has a rich history of over 1000 years. Patna is the place about which the great Lord Buddha is believed to have said that it would be a dominion of great Kings and their Empires.

It is the place which witnessed the rise and fall of many great emperors and kings belonging to several dynasties, and where several renowned religious and spiritual heads, including Guru Gobind Singh -- the 10th Sikh Guru -- were born. No wonder, it is said that few places in India can compete with the historical legacy and cultural importance of this incredible tourist destination.

Modern Patna is one of the most rapidly developing cities in the country. The cost of real estate in Patna is sky rocketing, and new shopping complexes, film theaters, new businesses, food joints are cropping up everywhere at a rate which has left even big metros like Delhi and Mumabi far behind.
