Dehradun - the Oxford of India OR City of Schools OR School Capital of India OR its scenic natural beauty

The capital city of Uttarakhand Dehradun is a complete blend of city and hill culture and a great place from the tourism angle. Located right in the centre of the beautiful Doon Valley, this tourist destination is called the Gateway to Mussoorie and Garhwal. One of the oldest Indian cities, Dehradun for long remained under the control of the Sikhs, Mughals, Gurkhas, and the British.

A tour to the lovely destination of Uttarakhand reveals many jewels. This incredible tourist place is also a well-known retirement spot and houses many famed institutions -- including the Forest Research Institute, Doon School and Welham Schools, ONGC, Indian Military Academy, Wadia Institute of Himalayan Studies, Survey of India, not to mention and Botanical Survey of India.

Dehradun hosts numerous fairs and festivals, such as the Jhanda Fair, the Shivratri Fair and the Lakhawar Fair. Dance, music, and sports competitions characterize the celebrations of these fairs and also add to the cultural appeal of Dehradun.

Mussoorie - Queen of the Hills

Picturesquely located in the foothills of the Himalaya ranges, 34 km away from Dehradun, Mussoorie is one of the most famed hill stations in Uttarakhand. Mussoorie offers magnificent views of Doon Valley and Shivalik ranges in the south.

One of the most widely visited tourist places of India, Mussoorie, much attracts the discerning visitors as it offers amazing views of the snow-capped peaks of majestic Himalayan Range. Mussoorie draws its name from ‘mansoor’ -- a shrub local to this region.

This nice tourist destination is a perfect place to spend one’s honeymoon. No wonder, several honeymoon couples visit this hotspot every year and take away with them the most unforgettable and eternal moments of their lives.

Mussorie boasts of several tourist attractions, such as The Mall (the main shopping area of the place and much famed for the antique shops at the clock tower); Kulri Bazaar (A thriving market place with many hotels, tourist guest houses and lodges along with eateries), Company Bagh (this lovely garden always remains crowded with families); Camel's Back Road (A nice place for those who desire to spend some time in peace); Gun Hill Kempty Lake (This place offers great vistas of the valleys and mountains); Lake Mist ( A marvelous place, with many restaurants, hotels and a lake with boating facility); Mussoorie Lake (A lovely picnic spot-cum-boating spot, which also offers stunning views of the surrounding valleys and villages); Sir George Everest House (This spot offers mesmerizing vistas of Doon Valley on one side and Yamuna Valley and charming Himalayan ranges, on the other); and Benog Mountain Quail Sanctuary (A paradise of sorts for the nature enthusiasts).
