Tehri-Chamba

Tehri Garhwal

A serene and quiet hill district, situated at the meeting point of Bhagirathi and Bhilangana Rivers, Tehri Garhwal is an incredible tourist destination. This place almost seems virginal and untouched. The ice-capped mountains enclose Tehri Garhwal on all sides and the River Bhagirathi almost slices through it giving the place an amazing natural magnificence.

The peaceful environs, lovely countryside and the magnificent Himalayas in the backdrop with rivers Alaknanda and Yamuna bordering the district on its east and west makes Tehri one of the mot visited tourist places.

The wonderful tourist destination gets its name from the word 'Trihari' which literally means a place which cleanses three key varieties of wrongdoings -- of deeds, words and thoughts. Dotted with several buildings of historical import and a sizeable number of shrines and temples, Tehri also boasts of a rich cultural background.

Tehri Garhwal is bounded by Uttarkashi in the north, Pauri Garhwal in the south, Dehradun in the west and Rudraprayag in the east. Due to its strategic location, Tehri is the transit point to many key religious destinations, including Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri, besides Yamunotri.

The place shot into limelight - courtesy the construction of the Tehri dam on River Bhagirathi. Resultantly, old Tehri was submerged and a new town appeared which was later given the name New Tehri.

Tehri is also trekker’s paradise and boasts of great prospects for several adventurous sporting activities, including trekking, hiking, camping, rock climbing, apart from white water rafting,. The Kharsao forests have various trekking routes.

Tehri Garhwal is well connected by rail, road and air. While Jolly Grant Airport of Dehradun is the nearest domestic airport, the nearest rail head is located at Rishikesh.

Chamba - Entry Point to Inner Himalayas

The unexplored, untouched and tranquil destination of Chamba is strategically located at a height of 1676 m, in the Tehri district of Uttarakhand. This hotspot enjoys great tourism value and shares its boundaries with Chamoli, Uttarkashi, Pauri, apart from Rudraprayag.

This tourist spot is nearly 60 km away from Mussoorie and 18kms from the new Tehri town. It is a lovely place to spend one’s holidays in serene and peaceful environments, amidst the beautiful hills and snow-clad mountains.

This jewel in the crown of the Himalayas offers numerous stunning sites and mesmerizing views -- including the snow-clad ranges of Himalayas, the breathtaking sights of the verdant ravines, not to mention the striking vistas of the Bhagirathi River flowing by.

The beautiful, virginal forests of Chamba -- with pine, deodar and apple trees -- are another attraction of the place. Further adding to the appeal of Chamba is the fact that it also has a rich and varied cultural background.
