Kausanii - its scenic splendour and its spectacular OR Switzerland of India

Aptly called the Switzerland of India for its unmatched virginal beauty and unspoiled charm, the picturesque tourist place of Kausani is located just 53 km away from the north of Almora, in the Uttarakhand. Also called the Jewel of the Himalayas, Kausani, which has great value from the tourism viewpoint, offers breathtaking views of the Himalayas.

In fact, there are not many destinations in the Himalayas which can stand anywhere near Kausani when it comes scenic splendor and amazing 300 km-wide mesmerizing views of the majestic Himalayas that the place offers.

Kausani Attractions

Adventure Sports: Kausani offers some lovely treks for trekking where the adventurous visitors can take pleasure in the many thrilling sports. The Trek of Bageshwar Sundardhunga, the Trek of Adi Kailash and the Trek of Base Kausani are some of the famous treks for the purpose.

Baijnath: Located 16 Kms away from Kausani, Baijnath is a famous temple town at the bank of Gomati River in the Garuda Valley. The main attraction of this temple complex is the idol of Parvati at the chief entrance. Another attraction of the place is the Kali temple, called Kot-ki-mai, situated about 8km away from Baijnath.

Pant Museum: This museum named after the legendry Hindi poet Sumitra Nandan Pant is located a little left from the Kausani town and is another attraction of Kausani. The famous poet spent his early days here.

Anasakti Ashram: In 1929, Gandhi Ji stayed at this ashram, also called ‘Gandhi ashram". The peaceful environment of the hills around had much impressed Gandhi then.

Pinakeshwar: Another interesting destination, the hill station of Pinakeshwar is 20 kms away from Kausani. It has a holy temple of the God Shiva from where one can see many lovely and scenic valleys.

Baijnath: Located 17 kms away from Kausani, on the banks of Gomti canal, Baijnath is essentially an historical place. It has a temple called the Baijnath Temple which was built thousands of years ago. The place is noted for its unique and attractive carvings and sculptures.

Someshwar: This well-known valley of Uttrakhand is located 15 kms away from Kausan. It has a well-known Shiva Temple built by King Somchand of the Chand Empire. Every year, in the month of March, a festival is celebrated here in the honor of the said god.

When to Visit

Kausani experiences snowfall throughout December and January. So, summer months would be a better time to make a trip to this place. However, those wishing to enjoy snowfall can well visit the place during the winters.
