Uttarkashi - Kashi of north

One of the most famous religious places of Uttarakhand, Uttarkashi – well-known for its amazing natural beauty, which almost seems unspoiled and untouched by human presence -- is a lovely place to visit and spend one’s holidays.

Aptly called the Land of the Gods, for its close religious connect, this spiritual destination is beyond doubt very special. No wonder, the religiously and spiritually inclined visitors flock to it from practically all over the country and perhaps even beyond. Numerous great sages, saints and philosophers also have lived and meditated in this holy destination, in the process, much adding to its sacredness and spiritual appeal.

Much like Kashi, located in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarkashi boasts of several temples that one may tour during a visit to this holy place. And the most famous one among these is the Kashi Vishwanath Temple. This is the largest temple in the region, and the most visited one also. Much interestingly, there’s a temple with the same name dedicated to the same god, Lord Shiva, in Uttar Pradesh also. No surprise, Uttarkashi is sometimes also called the Kashi of the North.

There are numerous smaller temples also in Uttarkashi, most of which are dedicated to the key deities -- Hanuman and Durga. Other gods in whose honor temples exist in Uttarkashi are Annapurna, Bhairav, Dattatrya, Ekadashrudra, Laksheswar, apart from Parshuram.

But then Uttarkashi is much more than just a great spiritual destination. And, it has much more to offer, apart from its temples and other holy spots. For example, it has the wonderful Nehru Institute of Mountaineering -- a renowned & prestigious institute in the field of Adventure & mountaineering. One can also visit the hot water springs in the region of Gangnani & Maneri Lake while on a visit to this area.

Gangotri the source Of Ganges & Yamunotri the source Of Yamuna are the other notable attractions which can be visited from Uttarkashi. The Major two Dhams of the famous Chardham circuit of Uttrakhand .
